Ubong 3K

One of my co-slaves who is under the Productivity and Loss Control Division, here in this company had sent a group IM saying we should join the Cost Saving Suggestion Contest.

Here’s the gist of his message…

Mag submit na po kayo ng Cost Saving suggestion ninyo.. at baka kayo ang mapili ng manalo ng limpak limpak na papremyo.. First prize 3k, second prize 2k, third prize 1k.. yung mga nanalo last time pwede ulit sumali ulit..

And here I am asking myself if I am really that desperate for a mere three thousand pesos.

The answer…

Not really.

I rather have that Ubong 3k than subject myself in that pathetic attempt to reduce some company’s expense when I know for a fact that no one really follows those “Cost Saving Suggestions”.

But just for the heck of it, I will enlist some of those ideas that I have. (I just actually googled it…)

Cost Saving Tips in the Workplace

Since I am most of the time, glued in my seat and guard my desk as my fortress, what a better way to start change within thyself? [insert rolling eyes here]

1. Logging off the computer and laptops at the end of the day. (As well as turning off those office equipment such as network printers, aircon, copiers and scanners among the like)

Did you know how much electricity does one computer consumed?

Desktop Computer – 60 – 250 watts
Computers with on-screen saver (idle pc) – 60 – 250 watts
On sleep/hibernate/standby – 1-6 watts
Laptops – 15 – 45 watts

Whacked it up:

Why do they just crucify the person who is accountable for his/her own pc? That way, no one would really forget to turn it off right?

2. Turn scrap paper into notepads. Use both sides of paper when photocopying or producing reports

IMHO – We are already doing this. But I have to say that most of the time, when I photocopy papers and use both side, I ended up ruining the first face that I already used. With that, I have to get another paper and do it all over again. It really doesn’t work if the person who uses the photocopier doesn’t really know how to operate the machine in the first place.

Scratch papers as notepads are good. I am using this. I even uses those 1/4 size of bond paper as sort of mat to my coffee mug, since I hate those cup circles in my table. See, cost saving. I avoided washing saucer and I used the scratch paper.

Whacked it up:

People who wouldn’t used scratch paper for their draft reports and instead used new bond papers would then be punished by asking them to eat those paper. Or better yet, all those scratch papers would be dump on their desk and just so that person could work on his/her table, he/she has to pushed through that pile. Talk about taking the phrase “paper pushing” into literal.

3. Using notice boards rather than circulating non-urgent memo’s.

Yeah, I so agree with this. Then we could be all informal and put all those hearts and XOXO in those boards. We could used the notice boards to announced someone’s birthday so he/she could could not escape the “manlibre”.

Whacked it up:

People here in my company don’t believe in non-urgent memo’s. Really. They all think that their works are all important. But I might convinced them that a glaringly big noticed boards are a sure way of making them HEARD. And they would feel superior and merited with them being so noble about their work.
